"Wasioto" is a Shawnee word once used to describe this region- often translated as the Valley of Deer- a place of natural abundance and gathering.
A place of natural abundance and gathering. That meaning still holds. Gainesboro has always been a place where people come together- on the square, along the river, through shared work, and everyday life.
Our role is to honor that legacy by creating spaces where that sense of connection continues- naturally, without force, and without losing what truly makes it the region.
The Gainesboro Project is a collection of thoughtfully restored buildings centered around the town square- each one playing a role in how people gather, stay, and experience Gainesboro.
Gainesboro and the Upper Cumberland are best experienced in layers-from the town square to the river and everywhere in between. This map brings those layers together to highlight what there is to experience here, from where people gather to local shops, restaurants, parks, and trails. Whether you're planning ahead or wandering as you go, it gives you a clearer sense of this special place-day to day and season to season.
